The Indian-American boy man named Arnav Uppalapati, pleaded guilty to killing his mother named Nalini Tellaprolu, in the garage of their home in December 2015, over a Pizza Order.
In 2017, Arnav Uppalapati was arrested by Cary police after more than a year for the death of his 51-year-old mother Nalini Tellaprolu.
Nalini Tellaprolu, who worked at Duke Medical Center, was strangled on 17th December 2015 with a plastic bag over her head.
Arnav Uppalapati was 16 when he killed his mother in the garage. According to the police report, her body was covered with bruises and scratches on her face, neck, torso and arms. There were minor blunt force injuries, and the cartilage in her neck was fractured.
On Friday, prosecutors said, “Arnav Uppalapati strangled his strict-minded mother after their tense relationship boiled over and she slapped him, disapproving because he had ordered a pizza.”
Cummings said, and when she slapped him, he choked her. Later he dragged her to the garage.
Cummings added that he put a bag over her head because he didn’t want to see her face.
On the otherside, at the time of her death, friends described Nalini Tellaprolu as a doting mother.
Defense attorney Ryan Willis called the case a tragedy. Arnav Uppalapati did not speak during Friday’s hearing.
Cummings said that Uppalapati’s age and his confession were crucial factors in deciding the length of his prison term. He compared the murder to a domestic violence case.
