Levi who plays the superhero SHAZAM trained with former Mr. World Canada bodybuilding champion and celebrity fitness trainer, nutritionist and lifestyle coach to get him in shape for the film. Starting at a weight of approximately 200 pounds, Levi packed on over 20 pounds of muscle by, among other things, lifting weights five or six days a week, often twice per day. Along with a rigorous workout regime Grant also placed him on a strict diet as well. As part of his diet for five days each week, Levi consumed between 3,000 and 4,000 calories a day. On the other two days each week, Levi was able to carbo-load, fueling his next five days and his consistently lean gains. Interestingly as part of his special diet Levi consumed 35% protein, 55% fat, and a lean 10% carbohydrate with tablespoon of fish oil for ” dessert”.
While many actors might consider such a regimen punishing and the trainer a super-villain of sorts, Levi did not. Levi said, “Grant Roberts was incredible. He’s a former body builder and a sweetheart of a guy. For five days a week, we just pushed as much weight as I could possibly bear, and I ate an insane number of calories. But as far as I was concerned, I wanted to use the opportunity to get in the best shape of my life. Of course, I was also doing it for the fans, ‘cause I want to be this guy, the Shazam they expect.”
Directed by David F. Sandberg (of Annabelle: Creation fame) set firmly in the DC universe with his own distinctly fun, family-centric tone, the superhero film Shazam is based on how we all have a superhero inside us and it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. This fun superhero adventure is all set to release in India on April 5,2019 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in 2D and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures.
