Praveena Paruchuri was born and brought up in the US and her Indian connection came through her parents. Her passion towards cinema have haunted her to make her debut into Tollywood. Praveena Paruchuri is the producer of C/O Kancharapalem. It is known news that the movie has been rejected from getting nominated for the National Awards, because it is produced by Praveena Paruchuri, a US citizen of Indian origin. If Kalpana Chawla can be recognized as Indian Origin, Why not Praveena Paruchuri ?
It is known news that Kalpana Chawla was an American astronaut and the first female of Indian origin to go to space.
Everyone is aware of that Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar, a Canadian citizen also won a national award and a Padma Shri. If a Canadian citizen can get National award then why C/O Kancharapalem not?
Yesterday Praveena Paruchuri wrote on Twitter, “SO SORRY @venkateshmaha25 #CareOfKancharapalem , your hard work and talent is NOT ELIGIBLE to be recognized at the #indiannationalfilmawards because it was Produced by me- a US citizen although of Indian origin …I failed you.”
Everything about the movie C/O Kancharapalem is Indian except for producer and even she is an Indian origin. It’s really unfair.
Earlier in an interview, Praveena Paruchuri said, “In the 90s, a lot more people from India moved to the US. But when I was growing up, I was the only Indian kid in the whole White neighbourhood and the only Indian child in the elementary school.” She also said that like many American born Indians, she too struggled with identity issues.
Praveena Paruchuri is a professional cardiologist with both teaching and clinical responsibilities. When the talented lady decided to produce a movie, she teamed up with Venkatesh Maha for C/O Kancharapalem . During the promotional activities of C/O Kancharapalem, when she was asked why she chose to produce a Telugu film and not an American movie, Praveena Paruchuri replied, “We hear about Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam films being showcased in film festivals across the world. Why not a Telugu film? Baahubali has opened Telugu cinema to the world and a lot more people know what our industry is capable of. Ours is not a big-budget fantasy film, but it reverberates with the essence of people and lifestyles from the heartland.
