Telangana Assembly Election Results 2018: Stage Set for Counting

Telangana Assembly Election Results 2018: Stage Set for CountingThe results of assembly elections 2018 will be out today. The counting of votes will start at 8 am. The election results will seal the fate of 1,821 candidates in the fray.

High voter turnouts were recorded in the five states – Telangana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram – that went to polls.

This is Telangana’s first assembly election and is likely to see the straight fight between the ruling TRS and the Congress-led opposition alliance.

All exit polls for Telangana show KCR of the TRS ahead in the race to bag a majority in 119 member assembly.

In Madhya Pradesh, the fight is between Shivraj Singh Chouhan and the Congress team of Jyotiraditya Scindia, Kamal Nath and Digvijaya Singh. While Shivraj Singh Chouhan talked about his government’s performance during campaign, the Congress leaders slammed him over the alleged Vyapam scam. In Telangana, the Congress-TDP partnership seeks to unseat KCR, the first Chief Minister of the state Telangana. Congress president Rahul Gandhi called KCR’s party the B-team of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Assembly Election results are also expected to have an impact on the political equations ahead of next year’s Parliamentary Elections.

In Telangana, the Congress is in touch with independent candidates who are likely to win. Also, the Congress claims that there are few rebels who have also promised they will support the ‘Prajakutami’, if it emerges as single largest party.

KTR, the  son of Chief Minister KCR, is facing a tough fight from his assembly seat Sirsilla. KK Mahender Reddy of the Congress and N Narsa Goud of BJP have been pitted against KTR in the Sirsilla seat.

In the 2014 elections, TRS had won 63 seats, the Congress 21, the TDP 15 and the BJP won 5 seats.
