2018 might as well be called the year of women in south cinema. It began with a bang courtesy Anushka Shetty’s powerful performance in Bhaagamathie. But Samantha Akkineni is one who delivered a series of hit movies this year – 2018. She began the year with a bang and at the end of the first quarter, Samantha Akkineni as Rama Lakshmi in Sukumar’s village based drama Rangasthalam, to leave us spell bound.
Gone are the days when the actresses had to bid goodbye to their shining career and turn home makers after they tie the knot. Today actresses continue working even after marriage and the film makers no longer see the married tag to be detrimental as long as the girls want to do good work and is serious about their profession. In Rangasthalam, Samantha Akkineni has won us over with her innocence and her versatility as Rama Lakshmi. Her multiple expressions in the song Rangamma Mangamm became the talk of the town. The ultra-glamoruous actress went through a complete transformation for her village belle avatar. But she looked beautiful. This was the first time, when she shared the screen space with Ram Charan and the film was turned out blockbuster at the box office. Later Samantha played the extended cameo in Nag Ashwin’s directorial venture Mahanati, the biopic of South Indian Legendary actress Savitri.
Samantha also delivered a bilingual Telugu-Tamil drama Abhimanyudu/ Irumbu Thirai in which she was seen in Vishal Krishna. After this Samantha was seen in Ponram’s directorial venture Seema Raja, in which she shared the screen space with Sivakarthikeyan. This year Akkineni Nagarjuna’s daughter in law was also seen in woman centric movie U Turn, the murder mystery drama, the remake of Kannada movie of same name. Currently Samantha is waiting for the release of her next upcoming Tamil film Super Deluxe.
On the otherside, Samantha is also sharing the screen space with Akkineni Naga Chaitanya in Majili.
